With the first quarter of the year nearing an end, you may be looking to purchase a new van for your business, or even for leisure. Whatever your reason, we thought we would round up the best selling vehicles so far so you can make an informed decision.
Since January there has been a total of just over 275,000 new van registrations, which is fantastic news. This suggests to us that business is booming, and of course everyone with a van needs commercial van insurance so that makes us even happier! Mike Hawes, chief executive at the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders, has even said, “Growing van registrations supported the February vehicle market as middle and heavy-weight vans enjoyed healthy rises, reflecting improving economic activity.”
A large range of models have helped contribute towards the growth during the first quarter of 2014, although the majority of sales came from Ford, Citroen, Peugeot and Vauxhall.
The first best-selling van of the year so far is the Ford Transit, with just under 4000 registrations. Ford released a new model this year, and as expected it is even better than the last. Customers seem happy with the fact that they can choose from a variety of engine sizes, as well as a bigger loading space, better tuned engines and advanced safety improvements. What more could you want?
Ford Transit Custom
Running in a very close second is the Ford Transit Custom, with just under 2,500 registrations since the beginning of the year, and the first van to get a five star safety rating. It was awarded the rating by Euro NCAP which, when you look at the safety features, is actually not surprising at all.
In third place is the Vauxhall Vivaro with 1,800 registrations since January, and if you are after something other than a Ford, the next best thing is this. There are a range of styles that you can choose from, six to be precise, and it has a great driving position that is very comfortable. If you have to transport a large amount of objects then this is the perfect van for you. There is also ample loading space and it is actually one of the largest vans in its class. Vauxhall have another Vivaro coming in the future too, which they will be using to build on the success of the one currently in the market.
What list of vans is complete without the Berlingo featuring somewhere? Well quite frankly, it is no list at all so at fourth on the list is Citroen’s famous van. It was recorded that there was around 1,700 Berlingo registrations this quarter, which is no surprise given the versatility of the van. There is a range of technology that comes with these models and there are the economical versions which are also great. They also come with a range of options regarding the bulkhead and seating, so depending on your situation there is likely to be a solution for you.
Last but not least with 1,600 registrations is the Peugeot Partner, which is often considered Peugeot’s answer to the Berlingo. Whilst driving this vehicle you will be unlikely to recognise the difference between driving a car and a van. Another reason it is in the top five is because it has more loading capacity than its rival models such as the Fiat Doblo Cargo.
While these are the most popular models that have been sold so far this year, we thought it was only fair to do a quick summary of the top 10 best selling manufactures of the year so you have more information to base your next purchase on. Once again Ford is at the top of the list followed by Volkswagen and Peugeot. Citroen, Vauxhall and Mercedes make up the fourth, fifth and sixth positions, which are followed by Fiat, Renault, Nissan and Toyota who take up positions seven to ten respectively.
Overall, there are some great vehicles to choose from in the market at the moment, so it is important that you have considered your business needs and what you want from a van. Ultimately it is an investment that requires maintenance, fuel, insurance and sometimes storage so it is important to research as much as you can before buying. The list above should give you an indication as to what vehicles are most popular at the moment.
