Nissan have announced that they will be releasing a new, all- electric van which is planned to go on sale in the US and Canada by 2014. The van will be manufactured at their production plant in Barcelona and it will be modelled after their previously successful Nissan NV200 commercial van.
Being based on the NV200 will certainly give it fan support as soon as it’s available. The current NV200 has been selected as the New York City ‘Taxi of Tomorrow’, so Nissan can be hopeful the east coast city will soon desire an environmentally friendly alternative.
This electric design will be known as the e-NV200 and Nissan have high hopes for this latest vehicle. It is their second all electric vehicle since the launch of their multi-award winning Nissan LEAF two years ago.
Speaking on their new product, the executive vice-president of Nissan, Andy Palmer said, “The new model will offer all the spaciousness, versatility and practicality of a traditionally powered compact van, but with zero CO2 emission at the point of use and also provide an outstanding driving experience that is unique to EVs.”
It is also said to contain the advanced powertrain components of the Nissan LEAF.
The e-NV200 continues to bring the company one step closer to meeting their long-term commitment of zero emission mobility and being a key provider of light commercial vehicles throughout the world. Many other commercial vehicle manufacturers and brands are looking to develop a solid range of all electric or hybrid vehicles, which could significantly reduce carbon emissions.
Financial Benefit of Electric Vans
In fact, it’s not just environmental groups who are pleased with these developments. Fleet managers and businesses are continuously looking for alternative fuel vans that they can include in their fleet, which will reduce their running costs.
Combined with government plug-in grants, lower overall costs can reduce the pressure of securing the best commercial vehicle insurance quote. However, many people looking for insurance will tell you regardless of financial situation, it is still important to get the best van insurance deal possible.
Mr Palmer recognised this benefit, stating about the e-NV200 “Crucially, it will also offer class-leading running and maintenance costs, which makes it an exceptionally attractive proposition to both businesses and families.”
