The Procurator Fiscal has had several reports made to them about the police mainly targeting commercial vehicles in Fort William and Inverness.
They had a two day operation that lasted two days where they uncovered a vast amount of offences. These included everything from drug possession to environmental offences. On top of this the automatically banned six vehicles from using the roads as they were in such a dangerous condition. This meant anyone who didn’t have a valid commercial vehicle insurance policy would have been in trouble.
The operation was no secret and it consisted of officers from British Transport Police, Scottish Protection Environment Agency, Northern Constabulary the Vehicle an Operator Services, Highland Council trading standards and the Housing benefits fraud team among others.
A spokesman of the Northern Constabulary said that the purpose of the operation was to find those who were committing crimes while at work which was affecting other employees, businesses, the environment and the rest of the public in the Highlands. He said, “Businesses are reminded to ensure their vehicles are roadworthy particularly as we approach winter weather.”
He then went on to thank the public who co-operated during the operation.
